Lanikai CK-C Concert Curly Koa Ukulele

Product Description

The Curly Koa Series is the pride of Lanikai. The CK-C uses Hawaiian Koa that is especially prized for its curly grain. Lanikai makes use of this exquisite wood by handcrafting the CK series to exacting specifications. Grown mostly on the island of Oahu, the gorgeous red-hued wood used for the Curly Koa series make these ukuleles look as beautiful as they sound. In its most traditional form the CK-C is a Concert ukulele that owes its existence to Portuguese immigrants bringing their craft of music instrument building to Hawaii in the 1870’s. The Ck series comes with die cast tuning machines geared 14/1 for those players that demand greater control over their tuning. If you have never played ukulele before get ready for a world of fun. The ukulele is an addicting instrument that can and will be taken everywhere. The standard tuning on a Soprano, Concert, and Tenor ukulele is GBEA, and on a Baritone DGBE. If you can play one ukulele you can play them all! With the easy playability, and included instruction booklet written by Mary Lou Dempler you will be playing in a matter of minutes then you’ll see why people are saying Lanikai Makes Me Happy! 3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Ukulele, but buzzing string, April 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Lanikai CK-C Concert Curly Koa Ukulele (Electronics)
This ukulele sounds fine and plays nicely. However, the C-string has a very annoying buzzing sound. Originally, I thought the strings just need some time to settle in, but the buzz didn't go away and I ended up returning the ukulele. Other than the buzzing, the ukulele looks very nice (different from the picture though) and has a bright sound. In the beginning, it keeps going out of tune since the strings are still stretching (aquila strings), afterward, it stays in tone pretty well. Though I would caution buying an instrument online since you never know if there are issues with it. But amazon always has excellent customer service and return an instrument was as painless as it could be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Curly Koa Ukulele, June 26, 2011

Great ukulele. awsome sound and quality. It doesnt look anything like the picture they have but still looks very good. I have shown it to a few people and they say they've never seen one like mine and are very impressed also. I wouldnt say its for beginners because it is kind of expensive but if you have been playing for a while and enjoy it and want a nicer ukulele than you have this is one to get. Koa is the best wood for ukulele its what I have been told since i started playing and i agree after buying this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love my Lanikai!!, November 25, 2011
This review is from: Lanikai CK-C Concert Curly Koa Ukulele (Electronics)
The CKC is similar to the CKCGC model sold exclusively at Guitar Center. The Guitar Center version has gold tuners and frets instead of chrome like the CKC. Since this is natural Koa laminated wood, each instrument will be different so don't expect it to look just like the picture here on Amazon. Check out the images on the Lanikia website that is listed in the item description you'll see other representative images for this model.

This is a well built instrument with fine sound and mine has great intonation.
